Bhubaneswar Highway to be expanded to Eight Lane from Palasuni to Tamando.

Bhubaneswar: In a significant infrastructure boost for Odisha’s capital region, the National Highway-16 stretch from Palasuni to Tamando in Bhubaneswar is set to be expanded into an eight-lane service corridor, aiming to drastically improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on one of the city’s busiest routes.

According to official announcements from the state Works Department, the project will feature a four-lane service road on both sides of the highway, effectively creating an eight-lane system designed to handle the rapidly increasing traffic load in the Bhubaneswar urban corridor.

The area frequently experiences heavy traffic jams, accident risks, and lane merging congestion, especially during peak hours and festival seasons. Recent infrastructure studies and public feedback have repeatedly flagged this stretch as accident-prone and overburdened.

With Bhubaneswar rapidly expanding as an urban and economic hub, the Palasuni–Tamando eight-lane corridor is expected to become a key arterial upgrade, supporting long-term mobility, safety, and regional connectivity goals.
